About Us

Who We Are

Veterans Desk is a veteran-built IRS 501(c)(3) nonprofit created by veterans and family members who’ve lived the confusion of VA Community Care—stalled referrals, mixed messages, and the “call back next week” loop when someone simply needs care. Our mission is simple and urgent: make VA Community Care easier to understand and easier to use for veterans, their families, and the providers who want to serve them well.

We’re independent from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. What we deliver is clarity—
plain-language guides, visual explainers, and a transparent membership directory that helps veterans find licensed, Community Care Network (CCN) providers in their region. While we don’t control VA eligibility, authorizations, scheduling, or payment, we help people move forward with better questions, clearer next steps, and fewer preventable delays.

Our Mission

The VA Community Care system is designed to expand access, but its rules and referral pathways can feel overwhelming. VeteransDesk.org exists to fill that gap. We:

  • Educate veterans and caregivers with step-by-step resources.
  • Connect veterans to providers who have been independently verified.
  • Support families through grants directed to local nonprofits that meet urgent needs, such as rent, utilities, or accessibility.
  • Strengthen the broader veteran ecosystem by making information transparent and easily accessible

How Providers Are Included

We feature providers in our directory, but with critical safeguards in place. To be listed, providers must:

Verification First:

Show proof of state license and CCN enrollment.

Review:

Submit a practice bio for review.

Independent Vetting:

Pass vetting through independent VA Provider Enrollment Coordinators (PEICs) — not Veterans Desk staff — to prevent conflicts of interest

How Referrals Flow

One of the most confusing aspects of VA Community Care is understanding the referral process. Veterans Desk simplifies that journey:

Step 1: Navigation Hub

Veterans begin at our navigation hub to learn what steps must be taken before a referral is approved.

Step 2: Our Guidance

Our guides explain how a request moves from a VA primary care team to specialty approval.

Step 3: Search the Directory

The directory then directs veterans toward CCN-enrolled specialists who are already positioned to accept referrals.

PARTICIPATION MODELS

Why Providers Participate

Providers often ask, ‘What’s in it for me?’

At Veterans Desk, provider benefits go beyond visibility:

Practice Growth

Listing signals to veterans that your practice understands VA referrals.

Time Savings:

Our guides reduce confusion, saving front desk staff from having to provide repeated explanations.

Community Credibility

Being featured demonstrates commitment to veterans — a powerful differentiator.

Partnership Opportunities

Providers may be highlighted in State Spotlight blogs, podcasts, or community features.

Governance and Transparency

Trust requires accountability. Veterans Desk is guided by:

  • A Board of Directors that includes veteran leaders and professional advisors.
  • An Advisory Team of providers, compliance experts, and nonprofit partners.
  • Published disclaimers and clear boundaries: no medical advice, no PHI, no influence on VA ratings.
This governance model protects veterans, providers, and sponsors alike.

Why This Matters

Veterans Desk was built because too many veterans fell through the cracks, not due to a lack of care, but rather a lack of clarity. We believe education is care. When veterans and caregivers understand what to expect, they can access services more efficiently, with less stress, and with greater trust in their providers.

Providers and sponsors who join us are not only investing in veterans — they are helping repair a system that has long needed more precise navigation.

Join the Mission

Veterans Desk invites sponsors to stand with us in making VA Community Care more transparent and more accessible. Together, we can reduce delays, strengthen nonprofits, and ensure veterans and families never feel lost in the system. For sponsorship opportunities, contact:
