Work independently or within a clinic, hospital, or OB/GYN practice—depending on your licensure and state regulations.
Be reimbursed for one-on-one counseling, group education, and care plan development when authorized by a VA provider.

Yes. With VA authorization, both individual and group lactation services are reimbursable under the Community Care Network.
You may work independently as an IBCLC if you meet all credentialing requirements and are licensed, where applicable, by your state.
Yes. These services may be authorized and reimbursed when included in a care plan approved by a VA provider.
Licensed Lactation Consultants can begin the enrollment process in the VA Community Care Network through Optum (Regions 1–3) or TriWest (Regions 4–5). Veterans Desk provides education, while the VA’s administrators handle enrollment.
